Turf Troubles? MetaLeadership:
Removing Barriers and Building Bridges

Course Description

Anyone who leads or manages knows that one of the most difficult barriers for departments and organizations to overcome is coordinating people in different professions and specialties. Within organizations people tend to work and think in their own silos e.g., departments, professional specialties, etc.

A special brand of leader is required to build that cross-silo connectivity. We call those leaders “meta-leaders,” leaders who integrate the work of the many different people and areas of expertise necessary to build quality patient care.

This course focuses on how to connect people, resources, information and performance of different professions and specialties. Even with very different agendas, health care providers can present a united front.

Objectives

  • Identify the five dimensions of meta-leadership and apply them to critical issues facing hospital and medical leadership.
  • Describe the four steps of the multi-dimensional problem solving process – “The Walk in the Woods.”
  • Recognize the problems of complex conflict and link to strategies and processes to facilitate dispute resolution
  • Understand and work with differential levels of “connectivity,” and apply models of leadership to enhance organi.zational performance.
